The Chippendale Singers

a mixed voice choir based in Otley

Alexander Woodrow, our Musical Director for two years from August 2014, was born in York in 1986 and studied music at Cambridge University, during which time he was the Organ Scholar of Magdalene College. He held organist posts as organ scholar and assistant organist at Guildford and St Albans Cathedrals, and at Hexham Abbey, before being appointed as Organist and Director of Music at Bradford Cathedral in January 2012 at the age of 25. He also directed the Chamber and Senior Choirs at Bradford Grammar School for four years and moved away from West Yorkshire in August 2016 to take up the position of Head of Choral Music at Solihull School. He is active as a guest choral director and accompanist, and performs as an organ soloist around the UK, including recitals at York Minster, King's College, Cambridge and Westminster Abbey.

Alex made a tremendous contribution to the choir in the two years that he was with us and we wish him well in his new career                                                                                                                                                             July 2016
